How can my GP support my sexual health?

Your local GP (general practice) is a great place to go if you have questions or concerns about your sexual health.

Most GPs in Bexley can provide the following to patients who are registered with their practice:

  1. Emergency contraceptive pill

  2. Routine contraception (e.g. pills, patch, ring)

  3. Long-acting reversible contraception (injection, coils, implants)

  4. Information and advice about different contraception methods, and referral to services where these are available, if not offered by your GP

  5. Cervical screening testing and referral

  6. Pregnancy testing and referral

  7. Sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing for people without symptoms

  8. Assessment and referral of symptoms which may be caused by sexually transmitted infections.

Bexley Enhanced Sexual Health Scheme

In addition to the above, several GPs are also part of Bexley's enhanced sexual health scheme.

This means that they offer testing for STIs to people who have no symptoms, regardless of whether they are registered as a patient with that GP.

The following Bexley GPs can offer this service:

  • The Albion Surgery

  • Bexley Medical Group

  • Bexley Group Practice

  • Bursted Wood Surgery

  • Crayford Town Surgery

  • Lakeside Medical Practice

  • Lyndhurst Medical Centre

  • Plas Medygg Surgery

If you are a GP and interested to join the enhanced sexual health scheme, please get in touch.
